Elizabeth Ashley’s Biography

Elizabeth Ashley’s passion for dog training encompasses a diverse range of dogs, including puppies, service dogs, and those needing basic manners and obedience training, as well as shy, fearful, aggressive, and dangerous canines. She specializes in private in-home training and group classes, tailoring enrichment, training, and management plans to each unique home environment. Elizabeth emphasizes the importance of joint training for both the dog and the owner, advocating that effective communication requires teamwork at both ends of the leash.

Professional Associations: At Wag Workshops, a regional non-profit focused on humane education, Elizabeth actively contributes as a board member. Here, she coordinates free dog training classes and therapy dog visits, underscoring her dedication to community service and animal welfare. She served on the Linda L. Kelley Animal Shelter Advisory Board as vice-chair from 2020 to 2023, further demonstrating her commitment to animal welfare.

Additionally, Elizabeth was a member of the Fear Free® Speakers Bureau from 2019 to 2022, where she shared her expertise in creating fear-free environments for pets.

Career Highlights: Elizabeth taught various dog training classes at the Humane Rescue Alliance from 2020 to 2023, including puppy kindergarten, basic manners, therapy dog, and reactive dog training.

Certifications: Her journey in dog training began at the renowned San Francisco SPCA in 2013. Elizabeth holds a certificate in training and counseling from the Academy for Dog Trainers (2018), a Fear Free® certification (2019), and a Service Dog Coach Certification from Cooperative Paws (2022). She is dedicated to ongoing education to stay abreast of the latest and most effective dog training methods.

Personal Life: In her personal life, Elizabeth is an architect and has been happily married for over a decade. She and her husband share their home with Walter, their 6-year-old black lab rescue who loves car rides and woodland hikes. In 2024, Elizabeth and her family will embark on a new adventure, moving from Calvert County to Denver, Colorado, where she will continue her passionate work in dog training and welfare.

Dog trainers who complete the service dog coach certification with Cooperative Paws Service Dog Education, receive a comprehensive training in skill necessary to train service dogs and coach clients in service dog training, public access tasks, communication with doctors, and communication with public.

Dog trainers who complete the animal trainer program with Fear Free® will acquire the skills to handle dogs and cats alongside the veterinary team during veterinary visits to ease the pet’s stress during exams, procedures, and other care.

Graduating from The Academy for Dog Trainers symbolizes a significant achievement in the field of canine behavior and training. It indicates comprehensive mastery of advanced training techniques, behavior modification strategies, and a commitment to science-based, ethical practices. Graduates are well-equipped to address a wide range of behavioral challenges in dogs with expertise and compassion.

Canine Good Citizen® resolutions have been passed by 47 state legislatures and the United States Senate, insurance companies are starting to use CGC® to insure breeds they would not otherwise insure, and some condominium associations around the country now require that all dogs in the complex have earned the Canine Good Citizen® award.

Animal Positive’s mission is to advocate for and improve the quality of life of companion animals and the humans who love and care for them.
