Dee Russell is a seasoned professional in the field of dog training and wildlife conservation, with a career spanning over a decade in various notable roles. Her passion for animals and nature is evident in her diverse work history and the depth of her expertise.

Background and Education: Dee’s journey began with an impressive stint at the US Fish & Wildlife Service in Kodiak, Alaska, in 2011, where she conducted endangered seabird surveys. This role marked the start of her deep engagement with wildlife and environmental conservation.

Career Highlights: In 2012, Dee joined Michigan State University for a Hyena Behavior Study and contributed to Action for Cheetahs in Kenya. Here, she was introduced to wildlife detection dogs and positive reinforcement training, broadening her skills in both dog training and wildlife research. Her work in Kenya, focusing on cheetah migration patterns and human-wildlife conflict resolution, was particularly impactful.

From 2014 to 2016, Dee worked with HT Harvey & Associates, a Californian ecological consulting firm. She utilized wildlife detection dogs for various ecological surveys, including solar and wind farm projects and endangered species conservation efforts.

Dee’s expertise was further recognized in 2016 when she joined Cornell University for a Moose population study in New York’s Adirondack State Park with Conservation Dogs. This was followed by her role as a wildlife technician with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation until 2018.

Dog Training Expertise: In 2018, Dee transitioned to a managerial position at Your Pro Dog Trainer in California. Her work encompassed R+ board and train, service dog training with the California Service Dog Academy, and engaging in Puppy Culture and Early Neurological Stimulation with Gravitas Goldens. She also provided behavior consultations for reactive and aggressive dogs, showcasing her versatility and depth in dog training.

Since 2021, Dee has been associated with Petco, alongside continuing her behavior consultation services. Her approach to dog training is informed by her vast experience in wildlife conservation, bringing a unique perspective to her methods and interactions with dogs.

Certifications: Dee holds prestigious certifications such as CPDT-KA and CDBC from IAABC, reflecting her commitment to continual learning and professional development in her field.

Personal Life: Dee is an avid hiker and enjoys exploring the outdoors with her 14-year-old golden retriever, Zainah, a retired scent detection dog. This personal connection to dogs enriches her professional work, allowing her to understand and relate to the animals and their owners on a deeper level.
